This is a short FishBytes report because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
What a difference a week makes. Last weekend I was hiking in shirt sleeves, exploring Mesa Verde National Park. I got some great photos (see them here).
Now we are in the deep freeze. These cold temperatures will put ice on the water in a hurry. I will keep a running list of waters that are frozen and safe for ice fishing. See that here.
Read our how-to, where-to ice fishing articles.
What's Frozen
Scofield has some safe ice on the arm adjacent to the dam. People have been fishing there and report fast action. There is unsafe ice in most areas of the lake so use extreme caution.
By Saturday, we expect these waters to have some safe ice. Again, the entire reservoirs will not be solid so use caution.
- Scofield
- Huntington
- Cleveland
- Currant Creek
- Puffer Lake
Uinta Mountain lakes are also frozen but most are inaccessible.
- Highway 150 lakes are accessible by snowmobile
- Stateline, Hoop and similar lakes may be accessible by 4X4
Proposed deer hunt changes have prompted Jim Karpowitz, DWR director, to write a letter to Utah sportsmen. Read it here.
