What's New
Days are slowly getting longer and average daytime temperatures are creeping upward. Ice will probably come off Utah Lake and Willard Bay during the last week of February or the first week of March. Walleye will immediately draw anglers' attention. Walleye can be hard to find just after ice-off, but provide good action as they stage to spawn in mid-March.
Ice fishing will continue into April at Strawberry, Scofield and other high-elevation waters. The ice will stay safe but conditions will become messy, with deep slush making access more difficult as the season progresses.
Bear Lake is now about 80% ice covered and boats cannot be launched anywhere on the lake at this time.
Apply now for big game hunting permits. Application must be received through the DWR website no later than 11 pm on March 3 to be entered in the draw.
The Western Hunting & Conservation Expo is underway in SLC, running through Feb 6.

Fishing Overview
Not many fishing reports have come in since the weather turned so cold. Big perch are being caught at Starvation, and lots of small perch are coming out of Pineview. Ice fishing at other waters has been hit and miss. People who work at it are catching a few fish, but we haven't heard of any outstanding spots.
Crowds of fishermen have been working Deer Creek, Rockport, Strawberry, Scofield and other waters fairly close to the Wasatch Front. Most anglers are finding fair success.
If you are willing to drive a bit you may find better action. Steinaker and Red Fleet, out near Vernal, usually offer very good ice fishing. The north end of Flaming Gorge is always a good bet.
