Promote Your Business or WebsiteI've been working hard adding new features to our fishing wiki. We are setting it up to promote the social media, websites and businesses of people who add info to the wiki. Post a fishing report, article or water overview and your post will include a link to your profile. Your profile will display your links. See this example. We are pleased with how the wiki is developing. It is a work in progress, and we love comments and suggestions. Fishing Wish List I'm also eying the lakes and streams around Pinedale Wyoming. There's some great fishing up that way. From Salt Lake, it is closer than Lake Powell or Flaming Gorge. Rock Art Safari On the way home I stopped by Little Black Mountain, Arizona, just south of St George, and shot good rock art photos there. I love hunting down ancient Native American rock art. This weekend I'm hiking to a little-know but impressive rock art site in the Grand Canyon backcountry. Called Shamans Gallery, it purportedly has impressive, large images of god-creatures. Should be a fun trip. Deer and elk hunt changes are being proposed for Utah, beginning in 2011. DWR seeks public input. Details. A grizzly bear attacked an Anchorage man. He survived by playing dead. Details. - Dave Fishing Overview
Stream fishing should pick up now that flows are subsiding. Most streams are still high but fishable, and that includes waters in southern Utah. Insects have been confused by our cold/hot/cold weather. Typical summer bugs have been slow to show up, but should provide good action now. That includes salmon flies, green drakes and caddisflies on many stream.Cicadas are providing some action on the Green River, and that should become more consistent now. Talk to the guys in the fly shops because conditions can change on a daily basis. Trout reservoirs offer generally good fishing. The water is still cool and so fish range freely - they often feed in shallow water. Shore fishing will continue to be good for a couple more weeks, then will slow as the water warms and fish move deeper. Strawberry often has a prolific insect hatch at this time of year. Trout feast on bugs and are less likely to hit your fly, lure or bait. Fish become finicky and success is spotty - it can be good in one spot and slow in another. Fish early and late for best results. Move around and try various lures or baits until you find something that works. Lake Powell striper fishing is heating up. Wayne Gustaveson reports stripers are now feeding on larva shad. "Shad are growing each day and within two weeks they will be big enough for stripers to accept surface lures. Then the fun begins with daily boiling action." Walleye fishing has been remarkably good at the big lake this year. "I found that trolling lures within a foot of the tree tops provides consistent walleye action," Wayne says. Read his complete report. Smallmouth bass are a great sport fish that are overlooked by many Utah anglers. Smallmouth bass fishing should be good right now at many waters including Deer Creek Reservoir, Jordanelle, Starvation, Flaming Gorge and Lake Powell. We have a great article about fishing for smallmouth at Flaming Gorge. Catfish action is just getting better and better at Utah Lake, Willard Bay, Lake Powell and other waters.
