Strawberry Report
I enjoyed good fishing at Strawberry on Saturday. I fished from shore during a windstorm and caught nice cutts. See my report and photos.

Lake Powell
This is a short report because I'm my way to Powell to chase boiling striped bass. Reports suggest action will be good great lake-wide, but one of the best spots should be the Good Hope area. That's where we're heading. Look for my report early next week.

Fishing Overview
The archery deer hunt begins Aug 21. Bow hunters should take along their fishing rods. After becoming frustrated tramping the hills, kick back and relax by a reservoir or stream and catch some fish. That way you will have something to show for the trip.

Fishing continues to be good on most waters through Utah. Normally, we see a slump in August because of the summer heat. This year action has been consistently good almost everywhere. We're hearing good reports from Strawberry, Scofield, the Provo and Green rivers and many other waters.

Lake Powell is the place to be right now, we we move toward the peak of the striped bass "boils." The big predators are feeding on the surface, thrashing the water as they chase small shad. Pull a minnow-imitating lure through a boil and you catch fish after fish.

Other great choices include Flaming Gorge for kokanee and lake trout, and of course the Uintas for small trout.

Closer to home, might big catfish are being caught at Utah Lake and Willard Bay.

Utah Wildlife Board will meet Aug. 19 in Salt Lake City. Details. The following are among the items the board is expected to discuss and approve:
- Cougar and bobcat permit numbers for Utah's upcoming seasons
- A revised plan to manage river otters in Utah
- Duck and goose hunting rules for this fall's hunt
