Description (Edit This)

Fontenelle is about 20 miles long when the reservoir is full, and has approximately 56 miles of shoreline.

Anglers may fish the Green River above and below the reservoir as well as Fontenelle itself.

There are campsites available at Fontenelle Creek Campground. They are developed sites with bathrooms and water. The fee is $5, but there are also other primitive areas to camp along the lake, free of charge.  

The roads to the reservoir provide year-round access.

Location (Edit This)

Approximately 30 miles north of the town of Kemmerer and 24 miles southeast of La Barge, Wyoming.

Located off Highway 189 on the Green River.

Primary Species (Edit This)
Rainbow trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout, lake trout and kokanee salmon are the main species in Fontenelle Reservoir. Recently burbot have established themselves in the reservoir.

Special Regulations (Edit This)
Regulations change from year to year. Check the Wyoming proclamation for the latest information. The creel limit on ling (burbot) is unlimited. Fish and game managers want people to harvest all burbot possible.

Seasonal Factors (Edit This)

Ice fishing is reportedly excellent at Fontenelle Reservoir in the winter months.

Kokanee fishing becomes great about mid-May - June.

Lures and Techniques (Edit This)

Live bait, spinners and flies have been known to catch big trout.

Try trolling with a fly, using a sinking line or using midges, rubberlegs, and worms.
