Description (Edit This)

Half Moon Lake has a boat ramp on the north-west side of the lake (where the road comes in from Pinedale), along with a campground. There is, however, no drinking water at the campsite.

Half Moon Lake offers plenty to do besides fish. There is a nice sandy beach, a large enough body of water to pull tubes, canoe, & plenty of mountain biking trails to enjoy a ride.

Half Moon Lake Resort has a fine-dinning restaurant, bait shop & souvenirs.

Location (Edit This)

Half Moon Lake is in the central-western part of the state. It is north-east of Pinedale, Wyoming.

From Pinedale, take Freemont Lake Rd. for approximately 7 or 8 miles. The turnoff for Half Moon Lake will be on your right-hand side.

Primary Species (Edit This)
Brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, whitefish, and mackinaw/ lake trout.

Special Regulations (Edit This)
Pick up a Wyoming state fishing regulations book at a recreation store or online.

Seasonal Factors (Edit This)

Half Moon Lake provides winter fisherman with excellent ice-fishing. The ice is usually gone by mid-May, and fishing success is very good just after ice off.

The road beyond the boat ramp is not recommended for large trucks, trailers or RVs. Other vehicles will be fine on any of the roads. In the winter, if the resort is open, the roads will be plowed.

Lures and Techniques (Edit This)
The best technique is to troll slowly from a fishing boat, or casting a fly rod towards feeding fish (in the early morning or late afternoon/evening).
