Description (Edit This)

Freemont Lake is about 600 ft. deep, 11 miles long & ½ mile wide, making it the 2nd naturally largest lake in the state of Wyoming. A large portion of the lake resides in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and therefore has underdeveloped shorelines & roads. However, the two boat launches on the southern half are kept in good shape and are accessible. To learn more about the lake or the campsites, check out the link below.

Seasonal Factors (Edit This)

Central, western Wyoming waters, like Freemont Lake, are usually active for fisherman between mid/late-May through September, though winter months provide excellent ice-fishing. The lake always completely freezes over.

The road from Pinedale to the lower end of Freemont Lake usually opens when the snow melts, or the end of May. Call the Pinedale Ranger District, 307-367-4326, for current conditions.

Lures and Techniques (Edit This)

Freemont Lake tends to have heavy wind & thunderstorms in the late afternoon, so keep that in mind when boating.

The best time to fish is early morning & late evening, weather permitting, when the fish are feeding on natural flies/midges.

When fishing for trout, try trolling slowly on your boat, or try casting out, letting a little bit of line out, and then reeling in. Bait, Jakes lures and flies all work well on Freemont.
