What's New
Kevin Fox and Stacy Salmans fished Deer Creek today (Thanksgiving Day), and sent in the photo above. Kevin reports: "It was very foggy, so bad we almost didn't launch the boat. It didn't clear up until about 10:00. We did well fishing. I caught 6 or 7. Gold Triple Teazers were hot." (See more photos from his trip.)

Friday should be a great day to fish and enjoy other outdoor activities. Saturday looks unsettled, which means high elevation areas could pick up significant snow.

Weather should be delightful in St George, Moab and the low desert areas in between. Ideal for hiking, biking, jeeping and other outdoor activities.

I'll be hiking down near Moab, taking some folks who haven't had much chance to explore southern Utah's red rock country. Where should I take people who want great scenery without much exertion?

Could just drive the scenic routes through Arches and Canyonlands. Maybe stroll out to some easy viewpoints. But they can do that without me. I want to get them off the beaten path.

We'll probably view the rock art along Potash Road, and then do the easy hike to Corona Arch. If we have time, we'll also drive down the other side of the river and see rock art there. Should come back with great photos.

Best Lakes/Reservoirs
- Bear Lake for cutthroat, lake trout and whitefish
- Rockport for trout and perch
- Deer Creek for trout and an occasional walleye
- Scofield for cutts, rainbows and tiger trout
- Flaming Gorge for lake trout, rainbows, burbot
- Red Fleet for trout
- Steinaker for trout
- Fish Lake for splake, rainbows, lake trout and perch

Utah Wildlife Board will meet Dec 2-3 in Salt Lake City to consider Bucks & Bulls Proclamation changes, CWMU approval and conservation permit allocations. Members of the public are invited to attend and participate in meetings.

Fishing Overview
Tragic news about the death in Nutty Putty Cave. All of us should pause and reflect, and make sure we exercise caution as we enjoy outdoor recreation. It is great to push the limit, just don't push too far, too hard.

Ice fishing opportunities are expanding. Scofield now has about 5 inches of ice near the dam, so fishing is safe there. However, unsafe ice exists in some other areas so take care.

Huntington Reservoir has safe ice in some spots, unsafe ice in others. Test carefully before fishing there.

Other similar small, high elevation waters are probably frozen and should offer good fishing. But this is very early in the season so use caution wherever you go.

Strawberry Bay boat ramp has been open - you should be able to launch there Friday. But a storm Saturday may close it for the season. Ice is developing along the edges of shallow bays during the night, but most has been melting during the day. That will change during the next week or two. Strawberry fishing was good through most of the fall, but success has slowed a bit recently.

Streams in accessible areas are still good bets. The Green, Provo, Weber and others offer good trout fishing. Whitefish will soon start to school up in the larger holes and they make great targets for fly fishermen all winter long.
