Thursday Nov 6 Fishing Overview
The cold weather has people talking about ice fishing, but it is still too early. Some small, shallow waters at extremely high elevations may freeze about now but they are difficult to access. If you really want to push the season you could try snowmobiling into Whitney Reservoir off Highway 150 in the Uintas. Down south, Puffer Lake on Beaver Mountain will be freezing soon and it offers stocked rainbows. We won't really get into ice fishing until the end of the month, when Scofield and other major waters start to ice up. Currant Creek Reservoir may have solid ice by the end of November. Scofield is usually our first major reservoir to freeze and it often has safe ice about Dec 1. Otter Creek Reservoir and Panguitch Lake may also freeze about then. Weber River has generated several good reports - it is always a good fall stream. Browns are being caught on streamer flies and small lures. Most of our streams are good right now. If you want to catch a big brown, now's the time. The Green, Provo and Weber are your best bets for a big fish; dozens of our smaller streams also offer nice browns. Browns are spawning; be careful not to disturb the spawning fish. Strawberry and Scofield are hot, with jigs and Rapalas taking lots of fish. These waters will stay good until ice and snow shut down access. Within a few weeks conditions will become so cold that most fishermen will give up even though the fish are still biting. Flaming Gorge, Jordanelle, Otter Creek, Fish Lake and most other reservoirs also offer good fishing. Lake Powell bass fishing continues to be good. If you are interested then get down there soon because the action will start to fade within a couple weeks. Sand Hollow and Quail Lake, near St George, also offer great fall bass fishing and the action there usually holds up until Thanksgiving. Interesting Posts By Anglers

What's New
Snowbird will kick off the new ski season Friday (Nov 7). That is the second-earliest opening in the resort's history. Incredible! Weather should be nice Saturday, if you can believe the forecasts. Warm, then showers moving in Sunday. So take care if you have to drive over Soldier Summit Sunday evening. Southern Utah deserts are very attractive right now. This is a great time to hike the sunny trails in Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion Park. Where will I be fishing? If I had the time, I'd fish Sand Hollow Reservoir for bass. Fish one day then hike in Zion the next. That would be a fun weekend. The Green River is all but deserted now and fishing is good. I'd love to get over there and catch a big brown. But I have work to do this weekend. I want to take my boat out another time or two and so I may spend half a day fishing Scofield. When possible, I fish when I'm on business trips. I need to do a little more work up at Scofield and I may as well take the boat. I fished the Price River for an hour last Saturday and results were disappointing. Here's my report. I need to hike Notch Peak sometime within the next few weeks, before it gets too cold. It's a great hike in Utah's west desert and I need to shoot photos and video of the hike for a client. I'm looking for companions for that hike. I'm still flexible on the date. Let me know if you are interested. Events
