What's New

Moab Hiking
I really wanted to hike in Arches National Park this weekend. The Moab area is usually a great destination during late winter/early spring. But this season is strange - Moab has been colder than Salt Lake, and it keeps getting snow. All of eastern Utah has been in the deep freeze the past couple weeks. When snow falls, it is slow to melt.

Looks like Moab will warm up this coming week, and will be great going into March.

Meanwhile, I guess I'll hike in Zion Park on Saturday. St George will be pushing into the '60s. It will be nice to get down into the sunshine and fresh air.

Fishing Overview
Utah Boat Show & Watersports Expo is underway at the South Towne Expo Center. If you can't go fishing, go to the show.

It is spring fever time, and it looks like we will have beautiful weather this weekend. Should be ideal for ice fishing, late winter fly fishing, and hiking in southern Utah. All of our major trout and perch waters have good ice fishing. Streams at lower elevations are accessible and fly fishing will be picking up now.

Despite the mild temperatures, there is still thick ice on Willard Bay, Utah Lake and other similar waters. But edges will be getting soft, so take care. With warm temperatures forecast for next week, the ice may come off a little early.

Many community ponds now have open water and offer good fishing.
