Fishing Overview
Weather will be unsettled for the next several days. Bass and walleye fishing will slow as storms move through but trout fishing can be good during stormy weather. The next several weeks will bring some of our best fly fishing on our major streams.
Blue Wings are now out on the Green and Provo rivers, and they like stormy weather. Midges are also prolific and providing good fishing. There are a few Skwala stoneflies around but they prefer sunny weather. The Weber has been fishing better than normal for this time of year. It is mostly midges and nymphs, but you may see some BWOs.
Otter Creek, Piute, Minersville and numerous small waters should now be ice free and offer good trout fishing. Note the photo at top right, showing a 9 pound tiger trout caught by Perry Bunderson on March 25 at Nine Mile Reservoir.
For the bass and walleye, bide your time and fish when conditions are favorable.
Lake Powell spring smallmouth and largemouth fishing should peak in lake April or early May. Striped bass and walleye fishing will steadily improve this month and peak in May. Crappie and bluegill action should also be very good. Fishing will slow a bit as the heat of summer sets in, and then striper fishing will become red hot in July and August when the fish boil on the surface.
Sand Hollow should offer very good largemouth bass fishing during the next few weeks.
