    What's New
A Kokanee Fishing Seminar will be held Saturday, April 4, at Sportsman's Warehouse in Midvale. Jared Johnson from Rocky Mountain Tackle will be make a presentation, beginning at 12 noon.

DWR is looking for a few volunteers to help catch and transport catfish from Lake Powell, to be used as broodstock at Wahweap Hatchery. Details.

I'd love to fish Flaming Gorge next week, but I can't fit it into my schedule. The Green and Provo are good choices but they can be very crowded. I think I'll try Diamond Fork - it's a good stream, often overlooked, not far from home.

I hiked last Saturday in perfect conditions. Got these photos and this video of Kolob Arch, in the Zion Park backcountry. The next few weeks will be perfect for hiking the dry areas in southern Utah.

Just under the arch I slipped, fell and sprained my ankle. Hurt like heck and made it difficult to hike the 6.5 miles out. Read my blog about the trip.

Hopefully, the ankle will heal quickly and I'll be able to hike Buckskin Gulch later this month. After that, either Dark Canyon or Coyote Gulch.

I plan to hit Lake Powell during early May. Not a bad spring schedule.

Easter Jeep Safari, April 4-12, Moab. The safari consists of trail rides, mostly day-long trips, departing from Moab throughout this week long event. The official event is hosted by the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc, the local four wheel drive club of Moab.

So, I plan to stay away from Moab!

    - Good Fishing, Dave Webb
    Fishing Overview
Fly fishing the streams can be productive on stormy days. Blue Wings are the dominate insect now, and they like cold, wet weather. There are still some midges around, particularly on nice afternoons. Skwala stoneflies will start to appear when we get an extended period of warm weather, and they can produce exciting fishing. Bottom line, the streams are good now and will get better and better, until they become cloudy from runoff.

The Green, Provo, Weber and most other streams should fish well.

Flaming Gorge is very good for rainbows in the Sheep Creek and Hideout areas.

Bear Lake is good trolling for cutthroats.

Otter Creek Reservoir shore fishing has slowed but trollers are still doing well.

Piute Reservoir has good to very good trout fishing.

Jordanelle, Deer Creek and Rockport reservoirs now have open water and boat ramps are usable. Fishing has been slow but should pick up a bit when the water warms.

Lake Powell is good when the weather is calm and warm, and slow during stormy periods. Action will become consistently good for all species later this month. Watch the weather forecast and head down when there will be 3-4 nice days.

Many community ponds are now being stocked and should offer decent fishing.
