Where Would I Fish?
I've got to go hiking this weekend - it is a family mandate. Were I fishing, I'd be out in my boat at Strawberry, hovering off shore, casting minnow-imitating lures right up against the bank and working them back to the boat. I'd pay attention, trying to determine where fish start following and then focus on that depth/distance from shore. Strawberry can be finicky - very good one day and dead the next. But when she's good she can be very good...

My family is acquiring a new member - my daughter is marrying a kid from Virginia who has never been to southern Utah. We though we would chase him up Angels Landing in Zion Park, so we can get to know what he is really like.

Fishing Overview
Lake Powell rose 4 feet last week, the result of heavy runoff now cascading down our rivers. Smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill fishing is excellent at the big lake, and largemouth, stripers, crappie and walleye are also cooperating. Read wayneswords.com for the latest info.

Ray Grass says Lake Powell fishing may be the best in a decade, in this Deseret News article. The number of fish caught may not be spectacular, but the fish are big and quickly getting bigger.

Green River cicada are providing good fishing on the surface. Flows are high but stable and the river is fishable.

Most streams are dangerously high, but should start coming down in a few days. Within a week or two, most streams will provide very good fishing. The exception will be Uinta Mountain streams, which will run high for some time yet.

Reservoirs are fishing well - from shore, boat and tube. Shore fishers have a few more weeks to enjoy good action before rising water temperatures push fish deeper. For now, work the shorelines, including right up against the bank, and test various depths until you are out in deep water. Fish can be anywhere.

Best reservoirs right now - in my unbiased estimation:
- Lake Powell
- Strawberry
- Fish Lake
- Flaming Gorge
- Currant Creek
- Piute
- Otter Creek
- Stainaker/Red Fleet
- Rockport
- Kolob Reservoir
- Sand Hollow for largemouth
- Utah Lake for catfish and white bass
- Pelican Lake for bass and bluegill
- Scofield has been good but spotty and is worth a try

Most reservoirs offer fair to good fishing.
