Fishing Overview
Free Fishing Day is this Saturday in Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona and California. It will be July 14 in Nevada. Utah has several learn-to-fish activities.

Walleye have shown up in Red Fleet Reservoir. That's bad news and means fishing will probably decline at that great water.

Green River has good cicada fishing. Steve Schmidt reports, "Cicada, Cicada, Cicada! Need I say more... The Cicadas are now out in good numbers on the upper sections of the river. Fishing has been good. The warmer it gets the better it will become." Water levels are high but Steve says wading is still productive. Drifting is better. Read his full report.

Red Creek is still pumping muddy water into the Green. The best fishing is above that point.

Provo River has stable flows and good fishing. Lots of bugs are out on the Middle Section. Steve reports, "Smaller Golden Stoneflies, Isoperlids and Chloroperlids are starting to hatch in the lower sections. No Drakes yet and we are probably several weeks out before we start to see this big Mayfly begin to emerge." Read his Provo River report.

Weber River continues to fish well between the dams.

Lake Powell is now higher than it has been in five years, and continues to rise quickly. The Castle Rock Cutoff may be passable as early as next week. Launching at now possible at Hite, on the old dirt road.

Rising water has reduced fishing success at Powell. Stripers fishing is still hot, with fish being caught along main channel points, but largemouth and smallmouth bass are harder to find. Action will improve in a couple weeks as runoff ends. Read Wayne Gustaveson's excellent weekly report for current information.

Most of our trout reservoirs offer good fishing. Streams are high but will be coming down within the next couple weeks. See the weekly fishing reports by DWR for info on specific waters.

I normally summarize DWR's Hotspots Report, but it hasn't been updated for weeks and is essentially worthless.

We love to explore ancient ruins and have a goal to post info and photos about the best ruins on our website. So, we sent a photographer to Stonehenge. Ok, it was part of a college literature class tour, but she did get some good photos. See also went to Knowth & Newgrange, in Boyne Valley, Ireland.
