Getting Out
We are moving into my favorite time of year. Warm days - warm enough to boat and ski and play in the water. But nights are cooling off and temperatures will soon be crisp during early morning hours. Get out and enjoy this season.

There is still plenty of time for great warm-weather outings. Here's my plan:
- Strawberry this weekend
- Uinta Mountains over Labor Day weekend
- Lake Powell in mid-September

Best Lakes/Reservoirs
- High Uinta Mountain Lakes
- Boulder Mountain lakes
- Mantua for bass, bluegill
- Deer Creek for bass, trout
- Strawberry for trout
- Bear River for catfish
- Utah Lake for catfish
- Flaming Gorge for trout, lake trout, kokanee, bass
- Starvation for walleye, bass, perch
- Fish Lake for trout, perch
- Sand Hollow for bass, bluegill
- Lake Powell for stripers, bass, catfish, bluegill

Fishing Overview
Fishing is good and getting better in most waters around Utah. Air and water temperatures have peaked and are now starting to slowly cool. That triggers many species of fish to feed more aggressively. Trout, bass and walleye fishing will improve during the next few weeks.

Strawberry, in particular, usually fishes very well in September and October.

Lake Powell striper and bass fishing is very good now and should stay good into October. Stripers are boiling all over the lake - this may go down as the best year every for boil fishing. In general, anglers are catching more fish uplake from Bullfrog and larger fish downlake. But fish size is up everywhere, compared to last year. See Wayne Gustaveson's fishing report and forum for the latest details.

Flaming Gorge has produced some nice lake trout during the past couple weeks, and the big fish will become more catchable as we move into fall. Kokanee fishing is also good at the Gorge right now.

Streams continue to fish well statewide. Hoppers are the hot pattern, but other terrestrials are also good. In addition, caddis and PMDs work well on the surface and standard nymphs are working down deep. Stop by a fly shop near where you plan to fish to get the latest reports.
